How Will 3D Interior Design Evolve in the Next Decade

When it comes to the latest news in the world of 3D interior design, no one can tell for certain, we can only guess. It's important to take modern technology and how it advances every day into consideration to tell what is going to happen in the next ten years.

Predicting the future is impossible, and 2029 is quite far away, but if we take a look at the most obvious facts, it's not that hard to tell how 3D interior design will evolve in the next decade. Since technology and design are now so intertwined and dependable, they are both changing and evolving at a very rapid pace.

In less than five years, mobile platforms have become the focal point of the future of business and automation, and technologies like virtual reality, artificial intelligence, the most powerful rendering software, and so on are now more prominent than ever before. Coincidence? Not a chance.

It's all about the shifting playing field and modern tools that are quick to evolve. They are making huge changes in every industry and beyond, in our daily lives.

The design industry will change as a whole, that's for sure, from how the corporations are structured to the entire way companies function.

One thing is for certain, the possibilities are literally endless, as there's no telling where the future will lead 3D interior design, but there are some possible scenarios that might take place in the next decade.

Some experts and visionaries think that the world is in for a golden age. Things like full-body virtual reality suits capable of giving the user real-life senses are just some of the innovations we can expect to see.

The definition of 3D interior design will change

Interaction design, industrial and graphic design are all very different from what they were in the past. The creativity and design we see today can be applied to a much greater number of crafts than ever before. Buildings and entire cities are becoming smart.

The truth is, modern technology will make the 3D interior design of the future easier, quicker, less costly, and more powerful than ever before. The interior design of the next decade will give most of the power to the homeowners, allowing them to update and remodel their homes in a cost-efficient and timely manner.

The entire process of creating a 3D interior design is already less complicated than in the early days while providing much better results. It's more effective and efficient, giving the users much more options to view their objects in real-time and in real-life settings.

Augmented and virtual reality technologies allow users to view their options before they buy or update their homes. The contractors and investors can work with the modern 3D interior designers, experiencing their ideas firsthand, which is a huge step forward when compared to the way things were done in the past.

We can safely say that the next decade will bring us even more powerful technology-powered tools for everything from home improvement to interior design projects.

Then, we can also expect to see more DIY designers because the tools for learning the basics of interior design will also evolve to the point that even a newbie will be able to create realistic and complex 3D models.

All of this is great, but it's still not enough to say for sure what the next decade will bring. With all that in mind, here are some of the predictions of what the future might have in store for 3D interior design.

1. Smart homes

We already mentioned smart homes and cities. The truth is, these homes and cities have already been here for quite some time now.

New gadgets designed to make cities more connected are being released each and every day. The same goes for homes. There's even a smartphone control center that is actually a speaker, alarm, and personal assistant for smart homes, all in one.

It works very similarly to AI-powered personal assistants like Alexa. All you have to do is tell your device to turn on your lights, turn off your TV, turn up the heating, and so on.

It covers every aspect of your daily routine and you can program it to do it even better. If we take all this into consideration, it's safe to say that in the next ten years, smart homes will surpass all these standalone devices.

The homes will come with smart interiors already built into the structure, and these will be activated by movement, voice, smartphone or even thoughts. The best thing about smart homes and interiors is that the possibilities are endless. As time passes, the interior will get smarter and smarter.

2. 3D printing

3D printing is already revolutionary by itself but just like any other technology, it constantly evolves and advances. That only means that we're yet to see what this technology has in store for us when it comes to 3D interior design.

While 3D printing leads so many experts to believe that the world is on the verge of an industrial revolution, things are just about to get really interesting. When it first showed up, 3D printing was cumbersome and costly and, therefore, hardly applicable in the wider, non-industry-specialized applications.

Well, 3D printing will become even more exciting and efficient in the future. More importantly, in terms of 3D interior design, it will allow the designers to demonstrate their ideas with ease and in a timely manner. It will also allow the clients and investors to feel and touch those ideas in a real-life environment.

This technology will become so advanced that the period of time necessary to conceive an idea and then implement it will be reduced to almost a minimum, speeding up work and reducing cost – a win-win situation for both designers and clients. This opens a whole new field of possibilities.

Things we only imagined in the past will become completely possible. The truth is, 3D printing is yet to reach its full potential where it will be fully refined and cost-efficient. That's the moment when things will really start to happen.

3. Tiny House Movement

If there ever was a thing that would make such a huge impact on interior design, it would be the Tiny House movement. Often viewed as one of the most interesting and promising phenomena, this movement is what will greatly change the way we see interior design. It's a movement dedicated to active downsizing of living space.

Since house prices are constantly on the rise, as well as the awareness about carbon footprint and environment, this movement is a form of a global response to those leading issues of the modern world.

It's all about not using more space than you actually need and living in incredibly efficient and well-organized and planned living spaces that don’t endanger the natural habitat in any way. The main goal of this movement is simplifying our spending and life habits.

The movement continues to grow, spreading to every corner of the planet, which only means that the requirements for such precisely designed, expertly engineered living spaces will also grow.

Living in a premium space will even become a norm in the next decade but no one can tell for sure. The truth is, this movement is already an object of global interest.

4. Sustainable design

The consuming society of the modern world is bigger than ever and with it, the social and environmental mark that it leaves on our world. Since this is a very serious situation, sustainable design has become a subject that is raised quite often.

Industries are buzzing about it, experts and environmentalists are speaking about it whenever they get a chance. Eco-friendly interior design and landscaping are what leading companies are all about. Energy-efficient materials, buying locally, upcycling furniture, these are all parts of the latest trend.

Interior design with a conscience has become a thing. It seems that the world has finally begun to realize that we need to take a break from wasting natural resources and polluting our air, soil, and waters.

Hence the ever-increasing need for sustainable design that will be friendly to our environment and even help it to recover from the damage we've done. Those smart and tiny structures we've already mentioned are all including sustainable design, but this design will become even more conscious and advanced as time goes by.

When it comes to the future of 3D interior design, it already looks very bright from where we stand, and it's all thanks to modern technology but also humans becoming aware that our way of doing things so far hasn't been any good, not only for us but for the world we live in as well.
